Last Friday, our partner Miller Proctor Nickolas Inc (MPN) won the New York State sustainability Empire Technology Prize utilizing heat pump technology provided by Oilon.
This is a major acknowledgment of our capabilities as an industry pioneer and technology partner.
The Empire Technology Prize was launched to cut greenhouse gas emissions from heating in New York’s tall buildings, which are the city’s largest single source of GHGs. The jury acknowledges that there is a huge challenge ahead. For example, 90% of the buildings in New York City alone need to be retrofitted with sustainable heating solutions by 2050. For Oilon and other forward-looking companies, this is a huge opportunity.
Seven finalists were chosen from among solutions that simplify adoption of low-GHG technology. These could be heat pumps compatible with existing steam or high-temperature hot water systems or distribution upgrades that would make it less disruptive to adopt centralized low-temperature heat pumps.
MPN made quick progress during their one-year program. They built a mobile demo unit to raise awareness of new space heating technologies and secured $965K in funding for three pilot sites. These included historic, residential, and mixed-use buildings. These projects will generate key data to guide smart heating upgrades for buildings that use steam or high-temperature hot water.
Oilon is proud to support this shift, bringing Finnish innovation to New York’s clean energy future.
