From waste heat to social benefit. On behalf of the energy company Nevel, Francks Kylindustri has installed process heat pumps at Trioworld in Smålandsstenar – a solution that converts the industry’s surplus energy into district heating for almost the entire town.
At the Småland packaging company Trioworld, surplus heat is now being used instead of being lost. With the help of two new process heat pumps, the heat is recycled and led out into Smålandsstenar’s district heating network – a solution that covers up to 89 percent of the town’s needs, completely without carbon dioxide emissions.
Behind the solution lies new technology that makes it possible to reach the high temperatures required by district heating. The process heat pumps from Finnish Oilon can deliver inlet temperatures of over 90 degrees – something that was previously not possible with conventional heat pumps. This means that the waste heat from Trioworld’s production can be recycled and used directly in the district heating network.
– Utilizing waste heat is an important piece of the puzzle if we are to succeed in the green transition, says Daniel Ankarbranth, site manager at Francks Kylindustri in Smålandsstenar.
Interest in circular energy systems is growing
The project in Smålandsstenar is a concrete example of how collaboration between industry and energy companies can create local, sustainable solutions. For Nevel, it is also proof of how existing resources can be used smarter – for the benefit of both society and the climate.

After the installation in Smålandsstenar, Francks Kylindustri has noticed a growing interest in similar solutions. More and more industries see the potential in utilizing waste heat and contributing to a more sustainable energy supply.
